My Favourite Colour
Frances White cleverly managed to find the balance between handmade and digital. She is the artist and surface designer who created these beautiful multi-colour printed cushions.
The design was inspired by the delicate flowers of the West, East and Northern Cape regions in South Africa.
The South African Wildflowers – The design is from a large oil painting that I painted of indigenous flowers, birds and butterflies.
The Picturebook Johannesburg Garden Birds
Picturebook West Coast Succulents
(The last two patterns consised of drawings that have been coloured in by children and then scanned and digitally collaged.) Very cool!

Design Indaba 2013
It was a busy day yesterday, a complete overwhelm of colours, shapes, patterns, people and design items…wow! I couldn’t talk or walk anymore.. But the buyers day is a much needed part of the expo, as one has the time to meet and greet, to look and gape at all the creativity around. Yes some exhibitors are always there with similar styles as the previous years, as this is their opportunity to sell their products, but for me the beauty lays in the discovery of the unexpected and fresh. There is something in the air that makes one want to be part of, inhale it and immerse in it. Here are some first impressions as well as items that stood out for me, some to include in my online shop and wholesale catalogue.
Colour Africa
Now also stocking this beautifully illustrated colouring proverbs book. These proverbs are words of wisdom will teach children universal truths in an engaging and interactive way. Respect, compassion and teamwork are central themes.
The book consists of 10 proverbs gathered from 11 African countries and 10 languages. Each of the 10 proverbs appears in its original language, with an English translation and a picture. The lively hand-drawn letters are a great way to learn more about the shape of letters.
The adventure game in the middle of the book uses the themes of the proverbs in a fun way and gives adults and children a great opportunity to play and learn together. The book is aimed at children 4-8 years old.

Surprisingly Beautiful
Designs made out of trash shows us ones creativity but also how much potential our rubbish has. We are polluting our environment day by day and hopefully everyone is making a contribution to reduce the outcome, so why not make a difference with such beautiful design items.
