The President’s Gift Shop
Church on Spin Street is one cool space, that’s for sure! I just walked past it and am always presently surprised what they have done to the look of the store. Every couple of months they transform it completely. From wooden floor and wall covering (for the launch of the Comme des Garcons Fragrance Wonderwood) to wall covering with cutouts of paper leaves or the creation of a wild jungle feel for their window display, there are no limits really.. And one can find the most obscure and pretty things to keep or give away as presents, even fresh flowers!
They stock: Comme des Garcons perfumes, wooden sunglasses, Feiyue sneakers, t-shirts, prints, posters, magazines, books and other things they like. Check out their blog: http://churchgifts.blogspot.com/

Encounters 2011
The 13th South African International documentary film festival has started yesterday. And this year its super exciting, as one of our friends has directed the movie called Mama Goema and we are going to the première tomorrow!
Synopsis: Mama Goema is a multinational documentary film by Ángela Ramirez (Colombia), Sara Gouveia (Portugal) and Calum MacNaughton (South Africa).
“Take a pinch of Khoi-San lament, a dash of Malay spice, a bold measure of European orchestral, a splash of Xhosa spiritual, a clash of marching bands, a riff of rock, the pizazz of the Klopse, some driving primal beat, and a lot of humor and musical virtuosity.
What do you get? Goema, Goema, Goema! Mac McKenzie, musical mastermind and founder of The Genuines and The Goema Captains of Cape Town, puts the finishing touches on the culmination of his life’s work: Goema Symphony No. 1. Musicians and musical commentators Hilton Schilder, Neo Muyanga, Iain Harris, Graham Arendse and Teba Shumba, and new kids on the block, Kyle Shepherd and Shane Cooper, add a contemporary context.”
