Design Indaba 2012 – II
Finally some more interesting stuff I came across at this years Expo.. Loved the creativity from a number of upcoming and already established designers. The Buyers Preview Day made a big difference in getting to know designers – its cool to see who stands behind designs I blogged or read about and to have the time to connect.
But I must confess that some exhibitors who’s stands looked almost the same as last year didn’t really have to showcase again.. The fashion part was not really mine either, as I don’t think its necessary to give some of the local fashion designers the space of a fashion show, when all they are creating are bad rip-offs from international fashion houses..

First Impressions, more to come…
Bright Start
I would like to introduce this small nonprofit organisation based in Hout Bay, Cape Town to you. ‘The idea came to me’, said Sally Whitford, ‘when friends visiting from overseas noticed the success of a little boy we have sponsored these past 8 years.’ Encouraged by the words of our Great Madiba “Education is the most powerful weapon in which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela, Bright Start was founded in 2008.
‘Bright Start is an Education Support Programme, that places children from the communities into fee paying schools normally only affordable to more affluent families. ‘It is a partnership between ourselves, the schools and parents’, said Sally. ‘We believe that merely to pay for school fees is not enough, therefore Bright Start provides a mentorship programme that liaises between the schools and parents to provide ongoing support.’ ‘We see the commitment of the parents as the key criteria for selection onto our programme’. Members volunteer their time and cost ensuring that 100% of the donation reaches the child. To find our more about this project, or how to give a child a brighter future, visit www.brightstart.org.za

These beautiful multicolored fabrics come from Madagascar can be used as bed or floor throws. Each piece is handmade and has been crafted using traditional techniques and embellished with ancient cultural detailing passed through the generations. The fabrics are manufactured from sustainable local materials.
Selected range will soon be available in the Bonsela Shop.
The Beardly Bunch
There are a lot of charities around, but this one is the coolest! All men are asked to grow a beard for one month to create awareness – And which man doesn’t like to let his beard down? The Beardly Bunch has collaborated with Gogoknit.org who are knitting the beanies plus they employ other women and teach them how to knit. More then a half of the proceeds goes to the knitting ladies – for R 150 one buys two beanies – one goes to people in need and one is kept by the buyer. They look pretty funky too! Check out their Facebook page and come to Fireman’s Arms tomorrow evening to support this good cause.
